From Barn to Café: The Story Behind Our Collaboration with The Old Store

The opening of The Old Store at Fring Estate marked an exciting new chapter for the estate and for all our guests. What was once a traditional agricultural barn at the heart of Church Farm has been thoughtfully restored and transformed into a beautiful café, creating a welcoming place where guests can gather, relax and enjoy The Old Store.

The Restoration

The restoration has been carefully carried out to preserve the building's original character. Exposed timber beams, traditional flint walls and the barn's historic features have all been retained, while modern touches have created a bright, comfortable space that feels both contemporary and deeply connected to its heritage. It's a wonderful example of breathing new life into a historic Norfolk building without losing the story it has to tell.

The Partnership

We're delighted to be working with The Old Store, an independent Norfolk business already loved for its cafés in Snettisham and Thornham. Their reputation for exceptional coffee, freshly prepared food and warm hospitality made them the perfect partner for this exciting project. In 2025, The Good Food Guide listed them as its Local Gem and one of 50 Britain's Best Bakeries.

Visitors to Fring Estate can now enjoy everything from freshly baked pastries, cakes and bread to seasonal lunches, artisan coffee and pantry favourites. Whether you're stopping by after a countryside walk, meeting friends for lunch or simply taking a quiet moment to unwind, The Old Store has created a space that feels right at home within the estate.

The transformation of the barn was made possible through the support of the Borough Council of King's Lynn & West Norfolk Rural Business Capital Project, part-funded by the UK Government through the Rural England Prosperity Fund. The project was delivered in partnership with Norfolk County Council. Their investment has helped preserve an important part of Fring Estate's history while creating a vibrant new destination for the local community and visitors alike.

This collaboration brings together two businesses that share a passion for Norfolk, quality and sustainability. By combining Fring Estate's beautiful rural setting with The Old Store's outstanding food and hospitality, we've created a destination that celebrates both the heritage and the future of the estate.

We look forward to welcoming you to The Old Store at Fring Estate. Whether you're a familiar face from their cafés in Snettisham or Thornham, or discovering them for the very first time, we hope you'll enjoy experiencing this beautifully restored space as much as we do.

We always recommend you check with The Old Store directly for opening hours - here
