ACCOMMODATION

British weather is notoriously temperamental…

With bright sunshine one day and gloomy drizzle the next. If you’re considering a trip to Norfolk for your next UK cottage holiday, we unfortunately can’t guarantee your trip will remain rain free!

Luckily a rainy day doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy your trip, in fact sometimes it’s part of the fun.

Pack accordingly

Make sure to check the weather before you set off for your cottage holiday, and unless you can guarantee a week of sunshine, we recommend packing your wellies and a rain mac. As we all know, British weather is changeable, so it’s good to be prepared for an impromptu shower. With the proper equipment there’s no reason why you can’t enjoy walks around the Fring Estate or the gorgeous Norfolk Coast. Our luxury holiday cottages are dog friendly too, so don’t forget to prepare for a possibly soggy dog!

Bring board games

If it’s just too wet to go outside, board games are a great way to entertain the whole family and spend some quality time together. For younger family members games like Connect Four or Guess Who are a good way to stay engaged, and for the grown-ups a pack of cards can provide hours of entertainment (or competition depending on how good your poker face is!).

Get cooking or have someone cook for you

All the accommodation at the Fring Estate has fully equipped kitchens ready for your culinary creations. A good way to keep little ones entertained and fed is to get stuck into some baking or cooking while raindrops gently tap on the window. A drizzly afternoon may also be the perfect time to head to one of Norfolk’s many pubs and restaurants. Whether you’re after pub grub or a gourmet experience, there’s bound to be somewhere close that tickles your fancy.

Rainy day activities in Norfolk

There are plenty of indoor activities in Norfolk for families and couples, including tours of Sandringham Estate, Blickling Estate, and a trip to Hunstanton Sea Life Centre! If you’re able to head slightly further afield to the City of Norwich, there are plenty of fascinating historical landmarks including Norwich Cathedral and Norwich Castle. If shopping is more your thing Norwich has multiple retail centres to keep you sheltered on a rainy day.

A home-away-from-home cinema

As the sun sets on a rainy day there’s nothing better than turning off the lights, making some popcorn, and settling into a good movie. Norfolk is a popular filming location and has been featured in films like Stardust (2007) and Yesterday (2019). If you’ve got little ones with you building a pillow fort in front of the TV can make it extra special (although we think you can make a pillow fort at any age!)
